Welcome From the Rabbi

In the beginning, we're kept in the dark about why God creates the world. The reason is later revealed through projection. God says, "It is not good for the human to be alone." From this, the midrash infers that the world was created because God longed for partnership. Our community at Congregation Adath Jeshurun (AJ) is a manifestation of that longing.

The Torah chronicles the beginning of the covenant between God and the Israelites as they strive to create a community where people bless one another for their kindness. There is a learning process to understand what is required to live long on the land that the Lord, our God, has given us.

At AJ, we're still in that process. Some requirements have shifted, but our covenant endures. We dance at moments of joy, we stand at moments of awe, we march at moments of need, and we support those sitting in their grief. Through it all, we learn as a sacred community how best to fulfill our covenant. We are proud to be partners in a tradition that imagines God longing for partnership. We all long for partnership. You are warmly invited to join ours.
