Adult Education Programs

Adult Education at Congregation Adath Jeshurun is a robust and acclaimed element of the AJ membership experience. Adult educational programming is innovated and coordinated by an active Adult Education committee with the enthusiastic assistance of our clergy.

Invigorated by the mid-2019 arrival of our rabbi, Shai Cherry, Adult Ed at AJ continues to flourish. Rav Shai’s background as a university educator and author of a number of scholarly works on Jewish thought, theology, and the intersection of Judaism and science has transferred seamlessly to his role as congregational rabbi and “Chief Educational Officer” of our synagogue. His classes on such diverse topics as “Judaism from the Ground Up,” an exploration of the work of Maimonides, and the “6W’s of Judaism” have been extremely popular.

AJ’s Cantor, Hazzan Howard Glantz, has been a frequent contributor to Adult Ed programming. He has offered classes in Biblical and conversational Hebrew, and we’ve benefitted from offerings based on his extensive knowledge of AJ’s venerated musical liturgy.

In addition to our clergy, we feature programs offered by a rich reservoir of outside scholars, journalists, and experts who bring their insights to our membership. Finally, AJ is the only synagogue in Pennsylvania that has partnered with the Community Scholars’ Program of Orange County (CSP) which offers a steady stream of exceptionally high quality programming from Jewish music and art to literature and theology. You can see the list of CSP offerings below.

In all, Congregation Adath Jeshurun has become a hub of exciting and innovative adult learning. As the Mishnah informs us, Talmud Torah, a devotion to learning, is one of three pillars upon which the world stands. We at Congregation Adath Jeshurun are the ongoing beneficiaries of that tradition.

Orange County Community Scholar Program (CSP)
Congregation Adath Jeshurun, dedicated to the Jewish value of learning for its own sake (Torah lishmah), is excited to announce a partnership with the Orange County Community Scholar Program (CSP). As a partner with CSP, we’ll join a small group of synagogues enjoying the best Jewish learning available. AJ has the distinction of being the first Pennsylvania synagogue to partner with CSP.

Upcoming Offerings from CSP!
You can see the CSP offerings for the current month here. Please note that times on CSP web pages are Pacific Time. If you register and can’t attend, a link will be sent to you after the event to a recording. There is also an archive of classes that you can view here.
