AJ Men's Association
The Adath Jeshurun Men's Association (AJMA) is the male volunteer arm of our synagogue. Its mission is to help Jewish men be actively engaged in Jewish life. The AJMA belongs to the Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs (FJMC). Programming includes Sunday breakfasts with appealing speakers, small group explorations of specific men's issues, sports and spirit evenings, and Holocaust remembrance. All men in the congregation (and women!) are invited to participate in our activities. For more information, contact Ed Moses at karedlon@aol.com.
AJMA activities include:
WORLD WIDE WRAP
As a member of the FJMC, the AJMA partcipates in the World Wide Wrap: a morning when congregations across the country and around the world teach and celebrate the mitzvah of wrapping tefillin. The World Wide Wrap is held on the first Sunday in February, and the program generally includes breakfast and a guest speaker.
FJMC MID-ATLANTIC REGION'S MAN OF THE YEAR DINNER
Every year, each FJMC member club chooses a "Man of the Year" to be honored at a regional dinner in December. The event is held at a local synagogue and gives the AJMA an opportunity to recognize the accomplishments of their members.
HEARING MEN'S VOICES
Hearing Men’s Voices (HMV) is a program that engages men in Jewish life by building male relationships and extending Jewish community. Hearing Men's Voices facilitates intimacy among men through dialogue. The AJMA plans a couple of these programs each year to discuss common issues.
SOFTBALL TEAM
AJ plays in the Delaware Valley Synagogue League, which is a competitive Jewish softball league based in Montgomery and Bucks Counties. The league includes 20 teams drawn from Conservative, Reform, Chabad, and Reconstructionist synagogues. League play begins in mid-April and extends through mid-August, including the playoffs. In order to be eligible to play you must be 21, Jewish, or live in a Jewish household. Although we have limited roster spots for additional players, if you are a competitive athlete who can run, hit, and throw, tryouts and practices are typically held in March and early April. And, we are always on the lookout for a good pitcher! Information regarding game schedules, standings, and other league information can be found on the DVSL website. If you are interested in learning more or coming out for the team please contact Michael Freeman at mffreeman@msn.com.
DUES PAYMENT
Despite the challenging and unusual times we live in, the AJ Men’s Association continues to provide meaningful programming for all congregants. Please support the AJMA in its endeavors by checking off the optional line item on your membership dues statement, by submitting a check for $50.00 payable to the Adath Jeshurun Men’s Association to the synagogue office (7763 Old York Road, Elkins Park, PA 19027), or by paying online below. Your generous donation is deeply appreciated.
