Adult Ed Series on Awe

This year, Rav Shai will oversee a wide-ranging exploration of the concept of “awe”— what it is, how we experience it, and the effect it can have on our lives. We will explore the topic from four viewpoints, including musical, artistic, natural, and the written word. Please note: Registration for the Awe series is for all four parts. The cost for the series is $100.

Session #1: Wild Awe, with Rav Shai Cherry, on Sunday, December 10
The first session, Wild Awe, will take participants to the Holodec, a virtual reality arcade. We’ll strap on a pair of goggles and “experience” those natural phenomena right here in Philadelphia’s Fishtown. The Holodec is located at 1516 N. 5th Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19122. We'll start promptly at 1:00 PM. Space is limited so sign up ASAP! Space is limited for the first session at the Holodec, so RSVP ASAP...first come, first served.

Session #2: Musical Awe, with Jamie Clark on Sunday, March 10 at 10:30 AM
AJ congregant Jamie Clark is a professional cellist and recording/mix engineer. He’ll help us experience the awe of music. At AJ.

Session #3: Artistic Awe, with Beth Shapiro, MFA on Sunday, April 7 at 10:30 AM

With an eye on awe, we’ll be inspired by the masterpieces and maquettes of the French sculptor Auguste Rodin at the Rodin Museum. We will also find out why Rodin worked on his “Gates of Hell” for 37 years and learn which famous artists were inspired by him.

Session #4: Awe of the Written Word, with Rav Shai Cherry, on Saturday, May 18, at 9:30 AM
The poetry of wonder and recollections of mystics will give us a view into their worlds of awe. Their words may spark memories of our own or condition us to see the world with unjaded eyes.
