Adult Education: The Mussar Movement

Please register below for Rav Shai's three-part Adult Education series, The Mussar Movement.
The dates of the class are Sundays January 30th, February 6th, and Feburary 13th at 10:00am.

Many Jews are familiar with the antagonism between the Hasidim and Mitnagdim in 19th-century Eastern Europe. Their disputes were either theological or political, depending on one’s level of cynicism. One positive byproduct of that battle for Jewish minds came to be known as the Mussar Movement and focused on one’s character. This seems like an excellent time to review such wisdom!

Rav Shai is teaching a three-session course on Mussar by introducing Rabbi Israel Lipkin of Salanter, the founder of the movement. You’ll explore his focus on self-control and virtuous behavior through his writings and those of his students. You will also experiment with some of the exercises he pioneered in order to instill those character traits.
