Event

The Klezmer Concert for Ukraine’s Children of War is taking place on Sunday, September 21 at 6:00 PM at the Main Line Unitarian Church in Devon. This interfaith and non-partisan event is sponsored by the Kaiserman JCC, the Main Line Unitarian Church and many others. The concert will be an opportunity to share in the healing power of joyous music while tangibly benefiting the suffering children of Ukraine. The beneficiary of this life-affirming event is The Common Man for Ukraine, a volunteer-led charity created by the Rotary Club of Plymouth, NH. Since 2022, they’ve delivered over 4 and a half million pounds of food directly into the hands of children and families in safe houses and front-line villages throughout Ukraine. They use an all-volunteer network of trusted Rotary Club members from Poland and Ukraine to assure that the aid arrives safely into the hands of children who most need it. The Common Man for Ukraine also provides three-week residential trauma counseling retreats (in Poland) for Ukrainian children whose fathers have been killed in the war. So far, more than 1,300 orphans have attended these retreats. The concert will feature the renowned Ukrainian ensemble, Kommuna Lux, formed in 2014 on the streets of Odesa. They perform a type of high-octane music that can best be described as ‘Klezmer Vaudeville”. Since the war began, Kommuna Lux has become a cultural voice for Ukraine — raising funds and awareness while earning international accolades for their artistry. The suggested minimum donation is $36. Recent Ukrainian immigrants and refugees are welcome to attend for free.
